Merseyside's Knowsley Track League is now firmly established, with a variety-packed programme every Friday evening offering exciting racing for a wide range of riders.
The Knowsley facility, officially opened in October 2012, boasts a 400 metre outdoor velodrome encircling a state-of-the-art BMX track, which in itself is quickly getting a reputation for being one of the best BMX tracks in the country.

However it’s the velodrome that takes centre stage on Friday evenings, with proceedings kicking off at 7pm. The league format incorporates many of the classic track league staples, often including flying start time trials, Italian pursuits, keirin, devil and scratch events, with organisers keen to tailor the programme to suit the preferences of competitors. Racing is open to cat 1-4 riders, juniors, women and youths (U16 and U14).
Event organiser Liz Cockram said; “We’re keen to get more senior and veteran riders taking part regularly and we also intend to promote U12 racing too from June onwards. Parents; if your under 12 is interested in getting involved, please get in touch.

Last week, Team Terminator’s Ryan Whatmough dominated proceedings, winning both 15 lap scratch races, the 1 lap flying TT and his 1 lap sprint heat. He faced tough competition throughout from Fibrax Wrexham Road Club’s Chris Edmondson.
Entry on the day is available at £10 for cat 1-4s, Women and Juniors and just £5 for Youth riders. Spectators go free! The velodrome is based at Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park, Longview Drive, Huyton, Merseyside, L36 6EG.
