Huge crowds, no doubt inspired by Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton's Olympic Keirin gold medals, flocked to Herne Hill on the sunny Bank Holiday Sunday for Keirin! A new track meeting dedicated entirely to the motor-paced Japanese Sprint discipline.

Organised by Rollapaluza as part of their commitment to bring a diverse range of cycling events to the capital and supported by London and online bike shop Tokyo Fixed, spectators not only had the exciting track racing to watch but also a public Rollapaluza roller-racing competition, licensed bar, a chance-based Keirin lottery, delicious burgers and trade stands.

All riders whether in the women's, novice or male categories had a guaranteed number of rides, progressing through points-based rounds into their own finals.

In the male category forty riders battled through the rounds but it was no surprise to see all the representatives of the GB development squad, Peter Mitchell, Kian Emadi, Callum Skinner and Lewis Oliva line up in the final against visiting Dutch rider Michael Veen, Miles Stovold and local heros Richard St Pierre and endurance rider Symon Lewis. The local boys did well, but it was to be a strong victory for Kian Emadi form Lewis Oliva and Peter Mitchell. Full final classification here.

In the women's event Rachel James had shown her dominance in the mixed field from the first moment and indeed went on to an easy win. Women's classification here.

Eighteen riders took to the Herne Hill loop in the novice category and racing was as hard fought and close as in the main categories, eventual winner was Mark Bradbury riding for Tokyo Fixed.
