The forthcoming Red Kite events are set to be top drawer if the recent Devil's Challenge event was anything to go by, which saw several hundred MTB and sportive riders descend upon Llanwrtyd Wells on 7 April.

Sportive Series

They were first off, leaving Llanwrtyd in groups of 8-10 from 8am onwards, heading off to experience some of the best cycling Mid-Wales has to offer, with the routes including some really beautiful scenery.

Speaking after the event, the sportive riders were full of praise for a great days cycling, with one rider stating: “I enjoyed my first ever sportive. I take my hat off to those who rode all the Devil’s Staircase”. Another added: “It was a stunning Devil’s Challenge sportive today – a great few hours in gorgeous countryside”.

The next sportive event from Red Kite Events is the Arrow Sportive, due to be held on the 11 May, and following this the Elan Valley Sportive, due to be held on the 23 June.

MTB Series

They set off in an impressive mass start, with hundreds of riders flowing through town before heading off into the hills and mountains around Llanwrtyd to experience some of the best technical and most exciting mountain biking Wales has to offer.

There were three routes for riders to choose from – 30, 60 or 80km of tracks that took in the Cambrian Mountains, as well as trails throughout the Crychan and Irfon forests.

Speaking after the event, a representative from Swindon Mountain Bike Club said: “I am still feeling wrecked after the 80km option at the Devil’s MTB,” and another rider, Jim Tipp, added: “The Devil’s MTB Challenge was tough as a bottle full of tuff stuff. Awesome descents!”

The next MTB event from Red Kite Events is the Elan Valley Challenge, due to be held on the 23 June. Once again, there will be three route options – 30, 50 and 82km of tracks, which will offer everything that a good mountain bike course should, including single track, long flowing downhills, steep and technical climbs and downhills and some bedrock.

Red Kite Events have also just announced their Summer Evening XC Series and Winter XC Series, all based at CoedTrallwm, near Llanwrtyd Wells. Both Series will be eligible for British Cycling points.
