Event: 20 April 2013

The West Riding Classic is less than a week away and finally the weather is getting better!

It's been a long cold winter and like most cyclists I've tended to spend my Saturday mornings in the warm comfort of my flat rather than clocking up the training miles, but finally the Cherry blossom is on the trees and it's time to start riding again.

What better way is there to start the season than a tough day in the saddle riding 117 km around the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and with timing chips to time your efforts? It will act as a perfect yard stick of your fitness.

But remember with all that hard work, with over 2230 meters of vertical climb, comes reward. Probably the finest food station at any sportive in the UK where you will be provided with hearty home made soup, unlimited tea and coffee and freshly made Yorkshire Parkin. After you've finished the ride you can make your way to the New Inn Hotel to share tales of the days riding. We have booked The Vinegar Strokes to play a cracking set of covers.

Enter the event via the British Cycling website here.

Last year British Cycling described the event as “Destined to become a classic – great route, great food, great vibe… a must-do on the sportive calendar”.

West Riding & Cave Rescue Organisation
Rough Rider: The West Riding Classic will continue to support the good work of Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO). CRO has been providing first aid support to Rough Rider since 2010. £1.50 for every rider is donated to support their vital cave and mountain rescue work.

The CRO was originally formed in 1935 and has grown and developed over the years into the efficient organisation that it is today. By the year 2000 the CRO had attended 1756 incidents, including 605 cave and mine, 569 mountain and fell, 73 climbing, and 354 animal rescues (233 of which were from caves and potholes). During this period, 2654 people aged between 5 months and 87 years were given assistance. The headquarters, “The Depot”, is in the Dales village of Clapham
