Event: 27-30 June 2013
Location: Newcastle Falcons Rugby Stadium, Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Fans at the 2013 Virgin Money Cyclone weekend can ride alongside the pros as well as seeing them compete, thanks to Team IG Sigma Sport.

In addition to offering hints and tips to riders in the run up to the event, pros from Team IG Sigma Sport will be at the Tyne 6 Bridges family and beginner ride (Thursday 27 June) and join in the 4,000-strong Cyclone Challenge mass participation rides on Saturday 29 June.

Team IG Sigma Sport Cycling Team general manager Becky Frewing said: “Our riders love the stunning scenery and the warm welcome they always get riding in the North East. What better way for them to prepare for the Virgin Money Cyclone weekend’s racing than to get out for a ride and share their love of cycling?”

She added: “We’ll also be offering hints and tips for riders in the run up to the Virgin Money Cyclone weekend, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the event’s Facebook and Twitter pages for the latest.”

Virgin Money Cyclone organiser Peter Harrison said: “The Virgin Money Cyclone is well known for offering something for all riders – from beginners to pros. I am really pleased to be able to give all sorts of riders the chance to ride alongside their cycling heroes at the 2013 event.”

The Virgin Money Cyclone weekend takes place from 27 to 30 June 2013 in and around Newcastle and Northumberland. The weekend opens with the beginner and family-oriented 9.5 and 14.5 mile Tyne 6 Bridges rides along the banks of the River Tyne.

On Friday 28 June, the Leazes Criterium races see racing from youth to elite class in Leazes Park, close to Newcastle city centre.

On Saturday 29 June, up to 4,000 riders will take on the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge rides– one of the UK’s biggest mass participation cycling events. For 2013, the Virgin Money Cyclone Challenge rides continue the popular format seen in previous years, with riders choosing from 33, 63 and challenging 104 mile route options.

On Sunday 30 June it is the turn of the professionals again, with the Curlew Cup women’s race in the morning and Beaumont Trophy men’s race in the afternoon. Once again the Beaumont Trophy is part of British Cycling’s prestigious Premier Calendar series.
