If you are looking for a unique challenge in 2012, the 60 or 100mile Road Sportive at Bike Blenheim Palace is for you. With the rise in popularity of sportives in the UK, the Bike Blenheim Palace sportive takes place as part of the two-day ‘Festival of Cycling’ providing a challenge with a difference.

Starting within the stunning setting of Blenheim Palace, a World Heritage Site, there are two routes of 60 or 100 miles to choose from. The rides pass through the Oxfordshire Cotswolds taking in the sights of the Cotswolds ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and end back at Blenheim Palace where participants can enjoy the activities and exhibits within the Event Village.

Over 1,500 participants are expected to take part in this superb sportive event in 2012. On Sunday 19th August the Road Sportive will set off from Blenheim Palace at 8am and head north west through the villages of Stonesfield, Charlbury and Stow on the Wold on their way to a rest stop at Lower Swell where the route splits.

The 60 mile route will return to Blenheim Palace through Lower Slaughter, Little and Great Rissington, Great Barrington, through Shipton under Wychwood, Minster Lovell and on to Long Hanborough Combe and then Blenheim Palace. The 100 mile route will head off from Lower Swell making its way to Buckland, Winchcombe, Guiting Power and back to Lower Swell from where it will follow the 60 mile route back to Blenheim Palace to the finish line, where participants can meet up with friends and family.

Participants are well looked after on the course with route safety and care provided by Trafeco Sport who have provided route management for the Tour of Britain, Tour de France (UK Stage) and many other major cycle, Triathlon and athletic events. Riders can also make use of the refreshments and water at the feed stations to keep re-fuelled and ready to tackle the rest of the route.

Breast Cancer Care is the official charity for Bike Blenheim Palace in 2012 providing the opportunity to raise money for an amazing cause whilst getting fit. For those who want to cycle a less demanding distance, the Breast Cancer Care Pink Ribbonride is a 26.2mile challenge entirely on tarmac roads designed as an ideal distance for those wanting to push themselves physically whilst having fun cycling in the company of the friendly Breast Cancer Care team.

Bike Blenheim Palace – A Festival of Cycling takes place on 18th – 19th August 2012 has something for everyone, from the competitive cycling fanatic to families looking for somewhere safe to ride their bikes in beautiful surroundings. Family rides will be available through the day with routes open throughout the Blenheim Park for a once-per-year cycling opportunity.

2012 will see a significantly bigger Event Village with many of the world’s best cycling brands and products available to view and try out. The Animal Bike Tour will be one of the star attractions as well as a cycling cafe and Kiddimoto Champs for under 5s. Exhibitors include Scott, Mavic, Schwalbe, Enigma Titanium, Rotor, Adidas, Magura, Cinelli, Campagnolo, Juice Lubes and many more.
