What do you take with you on a ride? 2 litres sports drink, gels, jelly babies. Can’t eat solid bars – stick in my throat! Two inner tubes, two CO2 cylinders, CO2 inflator, tyre levers, Allen keys, latex gloves

Why do you ride sportives? Combination of fun, distance (I always do the long version), hill climbing

What was your last sportive? Action Arrows 100 last September

What’s your favourite event and why? The one mentioned above – lovely country, great climbs in the Chilterns and superb food

What’s the longest sportive you’ve done? Mont Ventoux Master

What’s your most memorable sportive moment? Getting to the top of Mont Ventoux

What’s your worst sportive moment? A front wheel blowout when descending at speed

When was the last time you walked up a hill? Never have

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you (or you’ve seen) on a sportive? One particular rider, who thinks a lot of himself, falling over right at the start line!

How much training do you do before an event? Quite a lot – turbo sessions if weather bad, and miles in the saddle if it’s a long sportive

What’s your top sportive riding tip? Be prepared!

Favourite feed station fodder? Anything with pasta!
