What do you take with you on a ride? Drinks bottles, energy bars, gels, spare tubes, tools, phone, money.

Why do you ride sportives? For the challenge, also to see different places and chat to people you meet on the day.

What was your last sportive? The Polocini winter sprinter

What’s your favourite event? The Broken Spoke, Fantastic route, but mostly the great food.

What’s the longest sportive you’ve done? Did 85 miles at Broken Spoke, but doing Motion in Mercia which is 93 miles.

What’s your most memorable sportive moment? Finishing the Bike Blenheim Palace, After a very wet day and still feeling good.

What’s your worst sportive moment? Bonking on my first with 5 miles left, at the Wild Edric in 2010.

When was the last time you walked up a hill? On the Broken Spoke on climb at Pontfadog.

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you (or you’ve seen) on a sportive? Two guys on Butchers bikes that left me for dead.

How much training do you do before an event? Build mileage up to about 60 mile ride a fortnight before event.

What’s your top sportive riding tip? Don’t go off to fast trying to keep up with front group, I must listen to my own advice.

Favourite feed station fodder? Beans on toast.
