Sportive organiser Kilo TO Go has launched the brand new 'Motion in Mercia' sportive challenge, which will take place on Sunday 15 April 2012.

Routes take riders along some of the quietest roads and most significant places not only in The Midlands but the world. With an event headquarters at the heart of Mercia in Wolverhampton this new event, organised by Kilo To Go, takes place on Sunday 15th April 2012. Event details are online, now, at www.kilotogo.com enabling riders to prepare over the winter months.

There are two route options of 90 and 50 miles and, being set in relatively gentle cycling countryside, make for suitable challenges for all sportive riding abilities.

The 90 mile option takes riders to the tranquil forest of Cannock Chase, along some extremely quiet lanes of South Staffordshire and ‘all around the Wrekin’ into Shropshire. Then south to the UNESCO World Heritage site and birthplace of the Industrial Revolution – Ironbridge. After crossing the world famous Iron Bridge itself, riders cruise parallel to the Severn Gorge to historic Bridgnorth, home to the steepest funicular inland railway in Britain.

Organiser Simon Thomson said “ We think the area to the North-West of Birmingham is much under-rated as a cycling location. So rich in industrial history, this area almost defined the modern world by itself; and when the process of smelting iron was perfected the modern world, including that of cycling, got into motion. Iconic cycling brands such as Brooks Saddles, Reynolds Tubes and Dawes Cycles to name a few are all Mercian.”

Action kicks off from the event Headquarters in Wolverhampton at 9am where all riders head out north-east. Early riders are expected at Cannock Chase by around 10am.
