Thousands watched the London-Surrey Cycle Classic as London prepares for the 2012 Olympic Games. With the majority of the race taking place within Surrey, it gave a taste of what the 2012 Olympic Road Race will be like next year.

Mark Cavendish sprinted to victory in the road test event

Mark Cavendish won with a last-minute sprint won the race and commented on the route: "You can't get a sense of how the 2012 race will go, but you can get a feel for this course and the route is good."

Ride the Route Sportive takes place on Sunday 4 September 2011 and follows 65 miles of the Surrey part of the route including Staples Lane, Box Hill and an extra challenge of Pebble Hill.

Entry is £25 online and £30 on the day.  Entry includes free parking at the start/finish location in East Molesey, medical support, a goody bag, feed station and mechanical support. One lucky cyclist will find a signed jersey by Thomas Voeckler in their goody bag.  The Frenchman held the yellow jersey from stage 10 until stage 19 of the Tour de France this year.
