Etape Cymru is proud to announce that one of British Cycling's rising stars, Sam Harrison, will be riding part of the Etape Cymru route during the Horseshoe Pass Ride on Friday 8th July at 11.30am.

The Etape Cymru will be the UK's second closed road cyclosportive event. The 100-mile challenge takes place on Sunday 9th October 2011 and will not only take in the Horseshoe Pass, but also several well-known climbs such as the The Shelf, The Garth and Worlds End.

Put together with the support of Wrexham Council, Denbighshire Council, Welsh Assembly Government and North Wales Tourism, cyclists will be able to enjoy the stunning Welsh countryside in a traffic-free environment.

The 6.1km Horseshoe Pass climb gains 317m in height and at times the gradient reaches 20%. The public are invited to come and join and chat to Harrison on the route this Friday.

"The Horseshoe Pass is a really good and challenging climb in that part of Wales and I'm looking forward to riding it on Friday," said Harrison. "If that climb is anything to go by, the Etape Cymru looks set to be a fantastic route with its closed roads."

Among Welshman Harrison's many achievements, the 18-year-old won an UCI World Cup Omnium Gold Medal in January 2011 at his first attempt. He's tipped by many to be the next big thing on the British cycling scene.

The ride on Horseshoe Pass this Friday will be a fantastic chance for those interested in the Etape Cymru to preview a key part of the route and get some tips from one of the brightest talents in British cycling.

OFFER: British Cycling members get £12 off the entry fee and non members get one year's Ride membership, worth £24
