Glasgow’s Iain Grant was crowned Scottish National 50-Mile Champion after the title race staged at Freuchie in Fife on Sunday.

The 41-year-old Dooleys Cycles RT rider clocked exactly 1-49-00 to break the course record and take the win by a clear margin of 2-24 from his nearest rival, Sean Childs (Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA).

Childs clocked 1-51-24, but since he is not eligible for the championships the silver medal went to Alan Thomson (Sandy Wallace Cycles) who was third fastest on the day with 1-51-55.

Thomson led Sandy Wallace Cycles to the team prize with Steve Nutley finishing fifth and Silas Goldsworthy sixth to total 5-37-14. Dooleys Cycles were just 21 seconds behind with their best three finishers clocking 5-37-55.

The women’s gold medal went to Sian Tovey (Dooleys Cycles) with 2-05-35, just over two and a half minutes faster than runner-up Christine McLean of Shetland Wheelers.

And Sandy Wallace Cycles also won the women’s team prize with Jay Burgess and Tina Reid being their two counting riders.
