Report: Snowdon Sports

Shaun Duffield of Team GWB ACTiV RT got his first win of the season in the seventh event of the SERRL Summer Series.

The conditions were perfect in Rolvenden as the riders lined up at the start of the race and although many tried to put attacks in early on, nobody managed to get a gap of any significance.

Conserving his energy and sitting back in the bunch, Duffield, 36, had enough in his legs to take a sprint finish with James Freeman (Dulwich Paragon CC) in second and James Walsby (Catford CC Banks Equipe) third.

Shaun Duffield said : “It was a beautiful day, it was nice to wake up and see the sun shining and

want to go and race with it not seeming like a chore.

“The race went well. I sat in for the first part of the race. There were a few attempts to get away but nothing stuck. It’s quite a rolling course, the pace was high and there aren’t many opportunities to get away.

“I tried to conserve energy for a nasty stretch of road which was very rough, I was trying to find smooth line up but there wasn’t one really.

“Going into the last turn, I tried to move up as much as I could and then I had enough in my legs to push on for the sprint and I think I finished a couple of lengths clear.

“I had a few top tens but this was my first win, Redbridge was only other podium I’ve had this year. I felt good today, I did quite a few miles yesterday but I think I felt better for it. I’m off to Majorca with the team next week then I’ll do more SERRL when I get back and there’s a cyclopark Thursday night crit series I’m going to try and get across to as well.”
