Kirkcaldy and Scotland will once again kick off The Tour Series, with action in the unique, team based Series getting underway in Fife on Tuesday 14th May.

Ten top British cycling teams will visit the ‘Lang Toun’ to kick off their five week battle to be crowned champions in a repeat of 2012 when it became the first Scottish town to ever host a leg of The Tour Series having staged the opening round.

Tour Series Race Director Mick Bennett commented: “We look forward to returning to Fife and building upon the impact of the event from year one. This year’s Series looks to be our most competitive yet, so Scottish cycling fans should mark Tuesday 14 May in their diaries now!”

Cllr.Neil Crooks, Chair of Kirkcaldy Area Committee, said of the announcement: “This event created such a buzz in the town last year and because it was the only stage held in Scotland, it attracted visitors from across the country. I’m delighted that the financial support from Fife Council’s Strategic Events Investment Programme has enabled this event to return to the town. I’m also pleased to be working again with Kirkcaldy 4 All and Event Scotland, and hope that together we can make this event even more of a success than last year.”

Cllr. Mark Hood, Member of the Executive Committee added: “The Tour Series is another highlight event this year which will hopefully encourage and inspire more Fifers to get active. There will be a range of activities on offer throughout the day to give young people and amateurs the opportunity to get involved, try out the race circuit and discover a new found interest in cycling!”

Bill Harvey, Manager, Kirkcaldy4All added: “We are delighted to support this prestigious event for another year.

“Events such as The Tour Series do much to showcase Kirkcaldy Town Centre to both locally and nationally. We are looking forward to attracting a much larger attendance than last year and will liaise closely with local businesses to make it a success both on and off the track.”

Paul Bush OBE, Chief Operating Officer for EventScotland added: “The 2012 Tour Series attracted a good crowd to Kirkcaldy and I am sure the prospect of this year’s race, against the backdrop of increased profile for the sport, will make the event a success once more. Scotland is the perfect stage for cycling events and I delighted we are hosting the first race of the series, which will see junior and elite races through the town centre.”

Fife Council and Sustrans have been working together in Kirkcaldy since 2010 on a project called Make your move Kirkcaldy, which aims to inspire and enable people to cycle and walk more in the town. Kirkcaldy has a great cycle network both on and off-road, and there are loads of great places to cycle for fun, like Ravenscraig Park and the Middleden mountain bike trails. As well as developing new cycle routes, Make your move Kirkcaldy is also planning fun events, a schools programme and lots more.
