After finishing on the podium in the last two rounds, Tom Smith (Felt-Colbornes RT) finally secured a win in the Imperial Winter Series, taking victory in the E123 race at round ten of the popular series staged at the Hillingdon circuit in London on Saturday.

Smith, 36 and from Bracknell, placed second and third in the last two rounds, but took the win ahead of 17-year-old AW Cycles talent Joe Crolla, while Robert Willcocks (RAF CC) was third.

Earlier in the race, it was last year’s overall series winner Jamie Pine (Pedal Heaven RT) who took the Neon Velo Prime from Conall Yates (In Gear-Quickvit), but Smith came through to take the race victory.

While Crolla was celebrating second spot in the elite race, his team-mate at AW Cycles Ken Buckley won the third cat race.

The 26-year-old from Reading notched up his fourth victory in the third cat race when he pushed Graham Crow (Twickenham CC) into second spot.

Consistent Buckley has been on the podium every time he has ridden the Imperial Winter Series this season. He also won the Neon Velo intermediate prime in Saturday’s race, again edging out Crow.

And in the fourth category race, it was Londoner Lee Davies who took the victory, the 27-year-old London Dynamo rider beating Edmund Fowles (unattached) to the line, while Martin Williams (Sky Velo) won the earlier prime.
