British Cycling Olympic Podium Programme athlete Steve Cummings took the biggest win of his career on stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana.

Launching a solo attack from a disintegrating break of seven that formed early in the stage, Cummings made his move with three kilometres remaining, behind Juan Antonio Flecha and Cameron Meyer working furiously to close the gap.

On several occasions, it looked like all three would contest the finish, but Cummings was too strong and in the final kilometre established his strength and was afforded the time to sit up and celebrate.

In the peloton, Chris Froome completed his day safely, with third place still secure on general classification, before another round of mountain stages commence.
