Madison has announced the formation of a new Madison Genesis under-23 road team to start from the 2013 season.

In a statement from Madison it was revealed that Roger Hammond would manage the squad which has applied to become a UCI Continental Team.

“The Madison Genesis team ethos is to identify and develop talent from the UK with the aim to advance their careers in professional road cycling. Our desire is to create a UCI Continental Team, the application for which will be being made via the appropriate channels in preparation for the 2013 season,” as statement read.

“UK road cycling legend Roger Hammond has been appointed as team manager. Roger has enjoyed a distinguished career; riding for some of the best teams and brings with him a wealth of experience.”

Newly appointed manager Hammond added: “It has always been one of my desires to pass on my knowledge and help young British riders to achieve their goals without having to experience the sometimes hard lessons I did.

“When Madison presented the idea of their new under-23 team, I knew I had to be part of it. From the conception of the project, through the design of the bikes and clothing, I have been able to get deeply involved in the preparations for the new season.

“It has been both interesting and absorbing and I believe with the backing of professionally run brands such as Madison and Genesis, we can create an environment where partners and riders alike can reach their full potential in the shortest possible time.”
