Tuesday night saw the inaugural running of the Huddersfield Starwheelers Evening Road Race on the testing Crow Edge circuit on the moors above Huddersfield.
Despite torrential rain before the event, a full field of 60 riders lined up on drying tarmac for six laps of the testing 5.5 mile circuit.
Five riders including two juniors formed a strong breakaway group after lap two, all working well together, however, the very strong winds on the evening added to the challenging terrain. This saw the main bunch catch the break on the start of the sixth and last lap.
Lee Tunnicliffe, riding for Clay Cross Road Team, took his opportunity as the reformed main bunch recovered and broke away to cross the line and take the chequered flag 30 seconds clear of the chasing bunch who battled out the remaining places in a bunch sprint.
