South East Road Race League Round 17
Location: Horsmonden, Kent
Event: 1 July 2012
Report: Snowdon Sports

London’s Alan Strang stepped on to the top of the podium after powering to victory at the end of round 17 of the South East Road Race League staged near Horsmonden in Kent on Sunday.

Strang, 36 and riding for Dulwich Paragon, held off 21-year-old Matt Hull for victory, while the Kent-based SFA Racing Team rider in turn took second ahead of Margate veteran Shaun O’Regan (Team Toachim).

“It was a good old race,” said Strang afterwards. “There was a break of two or three riders which stayed out there for most of the race, and them a couple of others bridged across and came back.

“But the bunch was never far away and we started putting the pressure on and it was all strung out for the last five or six miles.

“We caught the last of the escapees in the final corner. It was a pretty fast finish, but I got in the right position and nailed it for the finish. I do quite a bit of track racing which I think gave me the legs to hold on for the win.”
