Chris Quin of Macclesfield Wheelers raced to victory in round 6 of the CDNW Road Race League on a 56-mile course in Wincham.

The 38-year-old Bebington rider got the better of Tom Bracegirdle of Team Elite on the line to take the win with two other riders also pushing for top place.

Conditions were awful, with the rain pouring down and gales making the race a tough one for the 39 starters, with only 18 of them finishing the arduous race.

Some of the course was on country roads and water was sitting on the track and covering pot holes making the race even tougher.

Winner, Quin, said: “It was the toughest day of racing I ever had! But at least I got something out of it, there’s a lot that didn’t.

“It was raining really heavily, it was windy and it was really cold. You’re riding along, your heart rate’s up to 170 and you’re still cold. I wasn’t sure if I was going to finish and I’m not surprised that there were a lot of riders retiring.

“It’s just one of those days, you have to get your head down and just go for it, I suppose it’s about mental toughness.

“There were four of us together at the end and the Stretford Wheelers lad had attacked and then I had a stab. With 200 metres to go, I just unleashed a sprint and won it by about half a wheel.”
