Completing a weekend double, in-form Blake Cowley (Clay Cross RT) made it five wins for the season with a sprint victory on the Darley Moor circuit at Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

The 22-year-old, from Newark, instigated the winning break, attacking just as an earlier move was brought back, and he went on to take the final sprint by half a wheel from Ben Ives (We love Mountains RT) who had finished third behind Cowley at Barkston Heath the previous day.

The leading group included Cowley’s team-mate Carl Dyson, who brought them back together and set up the sprint after Edward Pickard (Derby Mercury RC) opened up a gap going into the final lap.

“My legs were feeling a bit tired from the day before and it was close,” said Cowley, who rode the Tour Doon Hame over Easter.

“I’m racing a lot at the minute and riding near the front to get in breaks when I can.

“I waited for a bit today, there were a lot of early flurries, and I went just as one was pulled back. Two got across to me, then another three, and everyone worked really well.

“I’m trying to get as many results as I can, I have targets in my head. I want to get my first category by the end of next month if I can, although I won’t be disappointed if I don’t. I’ve never been in a team before and now i am, I think it’s proving a good thing.”
