Chris Froome will miss Paris-Nice due to a chest infection, leaving Geraint Thomas and Bradley Wiggins the only Great Britain representatives for Team Sky in the event.

Froome, an integral part of the Great Britain team for last year’s road world championships, picked up the infection during Volta ao Algarve.

Team Sky doctor Richard Freeman said: “Chris has not yet recovered from the chest infection he picked up at the Volta ao Algarve. He’s improving and it’s nothing serious but by skipping Paris-Nice this gives him ample time to recover.

“The team felt this was the best approach for the rider and he’ll be back to his best in no time.”

Paris-Nice takes place between 4-11 March.
