Storey reigns supreme at road world championships

How it unfolded:
Sarah Storey defended her world titles in the C5 time trial and road race in style. Entering the event looking to secure a third successive time trial world title, Storey caught up with other riders quickly before winning by 1:37.538 ahead of Poland's Anna Harkowska on day one of the 2011 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships.

But the real drama unfolded in the road race on day three with Storey’s main contender once again Harkowska. Despite the Polish rider’s efforts Storey clinched a dramatic sprint finish, winning by under a second to wrap up a hugely successful world championship for the 34 year-old.

What Storey said:
"I was a bit nervous about it, I was going for my third TT world title in a row. I won the event in Beijing and it's great to go into a Paralympic year with a world champion jersey plus you get to keep it for two years and that's always a bonus. I think a year before London it's important to put a strong marker down and give yourself that psychological advantage."

Why should this be the British Cycling's Ride of the Year 2011?
A further two world titles places Storey as one of Great Britain’s most successful riders, consistently delivering on both the track and road, providing Great Britain’s only gold medals of the event, Storey’s form bodes well for 2012.
