Rapha Condor Sharp has announced its first signings ahead of the 2012 season which form part of the team’s ‘new direction’ which will aim to develop young British talent.

British duo Richard Handley and Luke Mellor represent half of the arrivals with Australian Richard Lang and South African Christopher Jennings also signing. In addition Olympic champion Ed Clancy, former National Champion Kristian House, Andrew Tennant and longest serving member Dean Downing have all re-signed.

Simon Mottram, CEO of Rapha, commented: “We firmly believe that the Rapha Condor Sharp team can make more of a contribution to UK racing by taking a different approach, with a different ambition. We all hope that a new generation of fans is being drawn to cycle racing and, among them will be hundreds if not thousands of young hopefuls, keen to try out racing and emulate their new heroes.

“We believe that the new ‘development focus’ of the Rapha Condor Sharp team and the creation of the Rapha Condor Academy is a natural next step for our companies and we are very excited about the journey ahead."

The team, which has been the UK’s number one ranked continental team over each of the last three years and is managed by John Herety, is expected to announce its full rider list imminently.
