CYCLE Premier-Metaltek rider Rob Smail secured his second win this week when he powered to victory in round 13 of the CDNW League in Cumbria on Sunday.

The 25-year-old from Devon made his trip north worthwhile when he won the Lakes RC promotion on roads around Ulverston, four days after he had also won the City Race Series circuit race around Manchester City's stadium.

Smail was part of a break of around a dozen riders which went clear early in the E123 race, but as the pace was kept high by the strong men the leaders split into three or four groups, with Smail powering ahead with Samuel Jackson (Herbalife-Wheelbase) and Matthew Robinson (All Terrain Cycles).

As the line loomed it was Jackson who made the first bid for glory, but on the uphill finish Smail proved too strong and came round him to take the win.

Further back, the remnants of the leading group tricked in over the next two or three minutes, while what was left of the bunch was even further back.

In the supporting CDNW League event for 3/4 category riders, David Crowley, the 49-year-old Bill Nickson Cycles rider from Preston, secured victory from Chris Taylor of Border City Wheelers.
