Hunt Wins Redgrave Road Race

Redgrave Road Race (Diss & District CC), 18 June 2011
Redgrave Activities Centre, Diss, Norfolk
Report: Snowdon Sports

ROBERT Hunt (WyndyMilla) won the Redgrave Road Race in Norfolk on Saturday, sprinting clear of his rivals in a bunch sprint finish to the 35-mile race based on six laps of a circuit around Diss.

Part of the Eastern Road Race League, the event was hit by a torrential downpour midway through which drenched the riders and left the circuit littered with debris which caused several punctures, and only 25 riders managed to make it to the finish.

There were several early breakaway attempts with a tailwind helping the pace to top 37mph at times, and the field fragmented under the pressure. But none of the breaks would stick.

Patrick Schils (Velo Schils) made a brave last lap attack but was baulked by a car and pulled his foot out, leaving his wheel out of alignment and spelling the end of his victory hopes.

In the bunch gallop, Hunt held off the promoting club's Trevor Banham, while VC Norwich's James Browne took third.
