Stamfordham, County Durham, 60 miles
Event: 24th July 2011
TALENTED 18-year-old Scott McCrossan marked himself as a name for the future with a superb victory in Wansbeck CC's 60-mile Thornton Trophy road race over some of the roads used for last month's National Road Race Championships.
The Lanark-based first year senior, who turned 18 last December, outsprinted his more senior rivals in a six-man break after three laps oif a testing circuit including the short but ssteep climb of The Ryalls which accouned for more of the field each time round.
The decisive move came just after the bell when three riders finally slipped clear from the dwindling bunch and were chased down by three more to form the winning break.
McCrossan looked comfortable at the front and came through in the sprint for the finoshing line in Wallbridge to edge out James Alder (Black Hawk Bikes), Chris Daddy (StarBikes RT), NathanWilson (Wilsons Wheels), Thomas Bustard (Team Sportscover) and Mark Perry (Vicious Velo) with a gap of 1-10 to the next group home.
