Notts MTB Race Nights continue at Cotgrave

Event Details

The second event in the Notts MTB race night series was organised by the Beeston CC with the weather forecast not looking promising the evening arrived with the threats of heavy rain looking less of an issue than had been expected.

The weather forecast did not deter the local Go-ride club, Nottingham Clarion coming out in force for the U12's race with nine of the 16 young riders that turned up. The club provided the winner, James Swadling and first girl, Eve Lyon with a creditable fifth place overall. Tim Elsmore was the first U10 in second place, Piper Radford of Sherwood Pines Cycles/Co-operative Motor Group the first U 10 Girl. The under 8's were led in by Lotta Mansfield of the Nottingham Clarion.

With the weather closing in the nine Youth and 29 Seniors and Vets left the start line. Aron Marshall Sherwood Pines Cycles/Co-operative Motor Group, Gareth Whittall Clay Cross RT and Steve Taylor Sherwood Pines Cycles/Co-operative Motor Group, the first vet rider, took the lead and never looked back completing seven laps in the allotted hour.

The Youth riders rode for their 30 minutes , taking in four laps of the circuit, U14 rider Jake Poole took the lead and it remained that way all the way through the race. Special mention should be made of Jake's performance as not only did he win the Youth race but he continued to ride the full hour and finish with a fantastic fifth place overall, a fantastic ride for such a young rider.

The judges would like to thank riders for calling out their numbers as the passed the finish, learning point - a different style of number is required for wet events.

We look forward to seeing you at the next event on 1st July at Sherwood Pines organised by Sherwood Pines Cycles/Co-operative Motor Group. The final even in the series is at 22nd July is the Bolsover and District event at Hardwick Hall.
