Event: Go-Ride in Peterborough

Young cyclists will be getting on their bikes at the East of England Showground, Peterborough on Monday 24 October when they take part British Cycling’s Go-Ride Road & Time Trial holiday coaching programme during the half-term break.

As part of the session, cyclists under the age of 16 will have the chance to improve their riding skills and learn various racing techniques on the criss-crossing roads around the Showground.

The day will start with a coach-led road race and in turn this is broken down so that individual aspects of performance can be improved and refined. Once they’ve been addressed, a final race is held to measure rider improvement. Throughout the day the riders will be challenged individually and as a team player.

Exec Peterborough events director, Keith Dalton, said: “We are delighted that British Cycling has chosen our venue as the place to provide young cyclists with the opportunity to improve their riding skills and techniques.

“Our facilities here in Peterborough are perfect in providing a safe and secure environment for young cyclists to have fun while learning about something they enjoy and we hope to extend our partnership with British Cycling to host more events next year.”

To take part cyclists need a road racing bike with dropped handlebars and a cycling helmet. No racing experience is necessary as participants will practice techniques and tactics during specific coaching activities and controlled races. The day long session costs just £10.00 and places must be booked in advance. Riders taking part will have a range of experience from complete novices riding a road bike for the first time in a structured session to seasoned racers competing in regional & national championships.

British Cycling’s Eastern Regional Go-Ride Coach Alison Lilley said: “The Go-Ride Holiday Coaching sessions are a brilliant way to get young people involved in the world of cycling and to introduce them to one of the fastest growing sports in the UK.

“The East of England Showground provides a unique opportunity for young cyclists and our coaching team to work in a traffic-free road environment and enables the riders to practice in controlled surroundings making it safe & ultimately fun to learn.”
