Report: MGRRL Round 2
On Saturday 12th March 2011, the Manchester Go-Ride Racing League continued with Round 2 of its 10 event series - and with 47 riders turning up from Mossley CRT, Eastlands Velo, Manchester Triathlon, and Manchester Cycle Sport, there was no shortage of riders ready to compete.
Round 2 was all about time trialling; both individual and team. The first race of the day was the individual time trial, with the Under 8 and Under 10 riders setting some blistering times, which were all recorded by youngsters from Mossley CRT who are taking part in British Cycling Cycling Award for Young Volunteers programme.
At the same time as the Under 8s and 10s were doing their individual efforts, the Under 12, Uunder 14 and Under 16 riders were refining their Team Time Trialling formation and strategy, through the expert guidance of John Daly and Nick Jones of Manchester Triathlon and Eastlands Velo.
After both age grouping had done their Individual Time trials and completed their fine tuning, all age groups were brought together to showcase their team time trial capabilities.
Performance of the day has to go to the team containing Marnie, Adam, Sebastien, and Rory - a group which listened to their coach, worked well in the warm up laps to complete their laps together, and lifted the pace in their race to finish all together stacking across the line to limit the time loss.
All in all, it was another great event which impressed, Tom Hodgkinson, the Manchester Go-Ride Coach. He said: "Round 2 was a great display of what progress the Manchester clubs are taking through the formation of the Manchester Go-Ride Racing League, though developing young volunteers, pooling equipment and riders, volunteer support on the day, best practice sharing, and spectacular and strong Go-Ride Racing Events.
"The riders did exceptionally well, with the help of the club coaches putting on specific TTT Go Ride club sessions before the day and refinement on the race day itself. The young volunteers did an exceptional job of bringing riders to the line and keeping the event on schedule. Their expertise in this area of volunteering through the education from the CAVY programme gave me the chance to step away from the results and enjoy this spectacular event."
