Report: Charlotteville Rascals Go-Ride Racing

On Saturday 20th April Charlotteville Rascals hosted their Go-Ride Rabbit Run Race. The sun was shining and brought out 47 riders of mixed ages to compete for medals over three events. Riders were grouped into four categories; ‘A’ through to ‘D’ and consisted of regular Rascals and many novice racers including a contingent from the Kingston Junior Cycle Club.


The Races

Individual Time Trial – this consisted of 1 timed lap over our mixed terrain course to test the riders’ speed and abilities.

Skills Test – riders were timed over the course and received time penalties for missing or hitting obstacles.

Scratch Race – grouped riders starting together over our mixed terrain course with a varied number of laps.

Group D (our youngest riders)

10 riders in total took part in the 3 events. Joseph Sharkey (Charlotteville Rascals) took the honours in the individual time trial with a time of 1 minute 30.50 seconds. 2nd was Finley Clifford (Charlotteville Rascals) in 1 minute 31.31 seconds and third William Flatau (Charlotteville Rascals) in 1 minute 38.84 seconds.

In the skills test Tom Cockle (Charlotteville Rascals) took the honours with a time of 1 minute 10 seconds; Finley Clifford was again placed 2nd with a time of 1 minute 13 seconds and 3rd place went to Hannah McIntyre (Charlotteville Rascals) in a time of 1 minute 19 seconds.

In the scratch race riders competed over 1 lap of the circuit where finally Finley Clifford over came the opposition to take the win with William Flatau in 2nd and Joseph Starkey in 3rd.

Group C

Group C consisted of our largest group of riders; 18 in total. In the individual time trial the top 2 places were very tightly contested with Sebastian Egan (Charlotteville Rascals) taking the honours in a time of 1 minute 18.47 seconds. 2nd was Jack Hartrey (Kingston Junior CC) in 1 minute 18.69 seconds and third Ben Flatau (Charlotteville Rascals) in 1 minute 23.39 seconds.

In the skills test Jack Hartrey improved on his 2nd place in the individual time trial taking the win in a time of 54 seconds. Alex Franks (Kingston Junior CC) was placed 2nd with a time of 1 minute 02 seconds and 3rd place went again to Ben Flatau in a time of 1 minute 06 seconds.

In the scratch race riders competed over 2 laps of the circuit where Sebastian Egan (Charlotteville Rascals) took the win from Ben Coppola with Jack Hartrey (Kingston Junior CC) in 3rd.

Group B

12 riders in Group B. In the individual time trial Will Phillips took the win in a time of 1 minute 07.06 seconds. A closer ace between 2nd and 3rd places saw Luca Boyd (Kingston Junior CC) take 2nd spot in 1 minute 11.47 seconds and third Matthew Singfield (Kingston Junior CC) in 1 minute 11.66 seconds.

In the skills test Simon Williams (Charlotteville Rascals) took the win in a time of 1 minute 04 seconds. Matthew Singfield placed 2nd with a time of 1 minute 08 seconds and 3rd place went to Will Phillips in a time of 1 minute 13 seconds.

In the scratch race riders competed over 3 laps of the circuit where Luca Boyd took control to take the win from Matthew Singfield with Callum Marriott (Kingston Junior CC) in 3rd.

Group A

Group A consisted of 7 top riders. In the individual time trial Ieuan Woods (Charlotteville Rascals) took the win in a time of 1 minute 04.22 seconds. Again a close ace between 2nd and 3rd places saw Guy Tucker (Charlotteville Rascals) take 2nd spot in 1 minute 09.16 seconds and third Henry Jarrett (Charlotteville Rascals) in 1 minute 10.51 seconds.

In the skills test Henry Jarrett took the win in a time of 1 minute 03 seconds. Guy Tucker took another 2nd place with a time of 1 minute 11 seconds and 3rd place went again to Tom Portsmouth (Charlotteville Rascals) in a time of 1 minute 14 seconds.

After his performance in the individual time trial Will Phillips was promoted to the group A scratch race. Riders competed over 4 laps of the circuit where Ieuan Woods took control on lap 2 to take the win from Will Phillips with Tom Portsmouth in 3rd.
