Cycling Club Hackney ran a Grass Track Go-ride event as part of Hackney Homes Fun Day in July.

Maybley Green was the chosen location - only a two minute ride from the Olympic park and on the day the torch procession passed right by the green. With many activities on offer the event was well attended and 26 young riders took up the opportunity to race.

Due to all the recent wet weather, the track bikes were left behind and racers rode on their own bikes with each rider setting a time for a flying 200m lap. It requires a fair amount of bravery to corner on lumpy grass at speed with the fastest times being set by Stanley Boyd - under 8' s - 32.1 sec's , Kai Watts - Under 12's - 26.65 sec's and Shaquille Eusebe U16's - 22.71 sec's. Following this, each age group raced a scratch race, roadie pursuit and a devil with all the riders coming together at the end into teams for a series of Italian pursuits.

There was some very close racing and we managed to finish of the presentations just in time for everyone to dash across the green to watch the Olympic torch parade. Many riders jumped on their bikes and followed the torch off into the distance- whilst the rest of us dashed off to find out how Bradley and Chris had done in the TT - a great way to finish a great day out!
