Great Britain’s sprinters dominated the Sunday evening session at the Six Days of Bremen as John Paul extended his overall lead.
Victories in the one lap sprint time-trial and the team sprint – alongside fellow British Cycling Olympic Academy Programme riders Callum Skinner and Lewis Oliva – on the fourth day of the meeting helped the 19-year-old build a six point lead over German Sebastian Döhrer.
British sprint champion Callum Skinner lies in fifth overall after winning the individual sprint whilst Oliva holds sixth with two evenings remaining in the Bremen Arena. Second-place Sebastian Döhrer prevented a GB whitewash with a win ahead of Oliva in the keirin.
After a Saturday session which saw Paul’s lead reduced to just two points, the 2011 world junior sprint champion needed a strong showing to fend off the challenge of Germany’s Döhrer.
Yet another win in the one lap sprint assisted the Scot ahead of teammate Skinner with Oliva fourth. Skinner would go on to win the major final in the individual sprint with Paul third and Oliva, competing in the minor final, sixth.
A return to form in the team sprint gave GB a third win out of a possible four in Germany though Döhrer fought back with victory in the keirin, Oliva second, Paul fourth and Skinner sixth.
Elsewhere, British Cycling Olympic Development Programme endurance riders Chris Lawless and Zac May concluded their UIV Talents Cup competition, ending in tenth after four stages.
