Sir Chris Hoy secured victory in the Six Days of Rotterdam sprint competition with Jason Kenny one point behind in second.
A win for Great Britain’s Hoy in the team sprint – alongside fellow British Cycling Olympic Podium Programme rider Kenny – plus a second place finish in the sprint and third in the keirin proved enough for the six-time Olympic champion. Kenny, 24, came second in the sprint and third in the keirin to narrowly miss out on the overall title.
World sprint champion and Olympic silver medallist Gregory Bauge and Teun Mulder made up the four-man competition, in which riders competed in the keirin, sprint and two-man team sprint on each evening with the line-ups in the latter rotated.
Kenny had led until day three when Hoy took the top spot. In the final night of action Hoy and Kenny were reunited in the team sprint, and continued their 100% record together in Rotterdam with the defeat of Mulder and Bauge.
Teun Mulder powered to the keirin ahead of Kenny, Hoy and then Buage before Jason Kenny ousted Hoy in the sprint final after the 36-year-old had earlier qualified fastest.
After his win, Hoy tweeted: “Thanks Rotterdam! Great six nights of racing, big crowds and brilliant atmosphere. Hope to see you again next year!”
