Silver for Barker as UCI Juniors Track World Championships concludes

British Cycling Olympic Development Programme rider Elinor Barker took her medal tally to three with silver in the women’s individual pursuit as the UCI Juniors Track World Championships concluded.

Barker faced Australian Kelsey Robson in the gold medal ride, Robson recording a time of 2:23.573 ahead of Barker’s 2:27.272. Earlier in qualifying both had gone faster – Robson in 2:23.165 and Barker 2:25.537.

For Barker, who won silver in the junior women’s time-trial at the 2011 road world championships, the effort completed an excellent performance in the championships after winning team pursuit bronze and omnium silver at the Southland Velodrome.

Australia ended the competition at the top of the medal table, with hosts New Zealand second and Russia in third.
