Amy Roberts takes bronze at the junior track world championships



Amy Roberts took a bronze medal in the points race at the UCI Juniors Track World Championships in New Zealand today. The race saw the Olympic Development Programme rider gain a total of 14 points, ten points clear of fourth place.

Jon Dibben started the first day of his omnium campaign in style with the fastest time of 13.578 in the flying lap time trial. Dibben then placed fourth in the second event, the points race. After having been one of four riders to take a lap on the field, Dibben finished with 23 points. The final event in the men’s omnium was the elimination race in which Dibben fought hard to stay in the mix throughout placing him tenth overall in the race. The Olympic Development Rider now sits in fourth place going into the second and final day of the event. With his strongest events to come, the individual pursuit and the kilo, he is looking to be in definite contention for a place on the podium tomorrow.

Matt Rotherham began his world championship campaign today in the men’s kilometre time trial. Rotherham, who is European and National (both senior and junior) champion in the event rode a 1:04.825 to place him seventh overall.

Tomorrow’s action will see the start of the men’s sprint as well as the conclusion of the women’s event. Friday will also see the start of the women’s omnium. Coverage continues on British Cycling throughout the championships.
