Paul Oldham of Hope Factory Racing took a remarkable win in the first round of the Yorkshire Points.
This was the first time that Oldham had been on a cross bike this year and he raced in the Newport Nocturne race last night.
But that didn’t stop him travelling to Northallerton for this, the John Stevenson Memorial Cross, and setting off like a rocket.
Oldham set off at full pelt from the gun and didn’t lose the lead again from then on, building up an unassailable lead and lapping everyone except the top seven and finishing in 58 minutes.
The race was then on for second spot and Adam Martin of Cestria Cycles committed to an attack and managed to open up a 30 second gap.
Dieter Droger (Dirtwheels Cycles) managed third, Benny Pygott (Paul Milnes) was highest junior in eighth and Ian Taylor (Craven Energy) managed tenth despite winning the veterans race just 30 minutes before.
Taylor won the veteran race by ten seconds after setting off with Noel Clough (Fietsen Tempo) and Seth Smith (Paul Milnes) from the start. Fastest lady Adela Carter (Hope Factory Racing) had a good ride, finishing 11th overall.
In the youth race, Chris Barnes (www.zepnat.com RT) and Matthew Worton (Hetton Hawks) rode together for the entire race but started to play around a little later on in the race and Thomas Mein (MTS) took advantage, closing the gap down.
Once they realised the danger, the leading pair got their heads down and Barnes went on to win. Lucy Horrocks was quickest youth girl.
In the under 12s, Jenson Young (Pedalsport) was fastest and Ava Oxley (Wakefield Junior Tri Club) was top girl. In the under 10s Marcus Hiley (Pedalsport) took top spot.
