Cross: Loake wins South West League R8

South Fork Racing’s Matthew Loake took over the lead in the South West League when he won the latest round at Escot Park in Ottery St Mark, Devon, on Sunday.

The 32-year-old from Newquay has hit form over the last few races and after first winning in round six, he added another victory in Sunday’s eighth round.

He crossed the line around 20 seconds ahead of Elite Velo rider Roy Wyle-Smith, with Mid-Devon CC’s James Bovey third, another ten seconds off the pace.

In the veterans category, Tim Carpenter (Cyclo-Cross.com) took the win from Cyclelogic’s Stuart Pickering, while best of the women was Jess Steer (Somerset RC).

Steer took the win ahead of Carol Sheehan of Bristol Cycling Development Squad, while Charlotte Coleman was third. Mid-Devon CC’s Adam Fursden was best junior, while his team-mates and brothers Joel and Will Kelly were first and second respectively in the Under-16s category.
