Paul Oldham rode to the first of a weekend Supercross double, when he took an impressive win at the first ever event at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.

The event, unrelated to the Rapha Supercross series, was run by Doncaster Wheelers and featured an extremely tough and hilly course, built on the landscaped grassland next to Doncaster Rovers’ state-of-the-art stadium and nearby retail and leisure facilities.

A small but high quality field produced an excellent race, with Oldham confirming his current excellent form with a win over MTR specialist and former under-23 national Cyclo-Cross champion, Dave Fletcher. Oldham’s Hope team-mate Dave Collins was third, with Pedalsport CC’s Jack Clarkson fourth and first under-23. Joe Moses was the first Junior.

First year Vet Jim Bryan, winner of the opening round of the National Series a couple of weeks ago, confirmed his status as the new kid on the “oldies” block with a good win in the Veteran and Women race. He beat former national champion Noel Clough, with Dan Cook third. Another National Series winner from South Shields, Adela Carter, took the women’s category.

Jenson Young was the winner of the under-12 race, taking the first of two wins over the weekend (he followed up with a win at the Condor cross on the Sunday) and the first of two one-twos with Matt Taylor. Charlotte Adams was the first girl in fifth place.

Seb Marsh was the runaway winner of the Youth race, pulling out an almost two-minute gap over Chris Barnes inside 30 minutes. Jamie Ridehalgh was the first under-14 in third place
