World Cyclo-Cross Championships

Strategy
The aim of the GB Cycling Team at the Cyclo-Cross World Championships is to develop towards top ten places. Criteria have been identified for each category to outline a pathway towards this aim. If it is not felt that there are British riders capable of attaining these performances, then a team will not be entered in that category of the World Championships.
Selection for the Cyclo-Cross World Championships will be made in the week beginning 9th January following the National Championships.
Selected riders will comply with the relevant anti doping rules. These include UCI and UK anti-doping rules (British Cycling Rules) both of which incorporate the ADAMS whereabouts system for notified riders who are on the National and /or International testing pools.
Any rider racing internationally and wishing to be considered for selection has a responsibility to provide the BC Cyclo-Cross Events Development Officer with a list of their race performances, updated on at least a monthly basis.
All riders who accept an invitation to compete in the World Championships shall agree to comply with the arrangements made by the Federation for team travel, accommodation and support services and personnel.
All selections are made by a selection panel nominated by the Cyclo-Cross Commission, whose decision shall be final. In the case of injury or non-participation for whatever reason for all or part of the chosen selection period, the panel may consider performances prior to this period, provided that the necessary level of fitness is demonstrated. All physiological assessment will be conducted by the British Cycling’s Olympic Programme’s sports science support.
Elite Men
The team will be selected on a discretionary basis by the selection panel. The selection panel will consider only riders deemed to be capable of achieving a top 30 placing at this level, and may elect to take fewer than the maximum number of riders permitted. The panel would consider the following factors in coming to a decision:
National and international race performances in the period 1 September 2011 to 8 January 2012.Competitive performances in international events will receive a weighting.Commitment to the GB Cycling team anti-doping policies.Commitment to the cyclo-cross discipline.Specific nature of the course.
Elite Women
The team will be selected on a discretionary basis by the selection panel. The selection panel will consider only riders deemed to be capable of achieving a top 15 placing at this level, and may elect to take fewer than the maximum number of riders permitted. The panel would consider the following factors in coming to a decision:
National and international race performances in the period 1 September 2011 to 8 January 2012.Competitive performances in international events will receive a weighting.Commitment to the GB Cycling team anti-doping policies.Commitment to the cyclo-cross discipline.Specific nature of the course.
Junior and Under-23 Men
The team will be selected on a discretionary basis by the selection panel. The selection panel will consider both riders deemed to be capable of achieving a top 20 placing at this level, and those identified as having the potential to win medals in major championships in future years, and who may therefore benefit from experiencing competition at this level. Nevertheless the panel may elect to take fewer than the maximum number of riders permitted. The panel would consider the following factors in coming to a decision:
National and international race performances in the period 1 September 2011 to 8 January 2012 which demonstrate evidence of a rider’s progression and development towards a top 20 World Championship performance. The selection panel will take into account the age and experience of riders, as well as the quality of fields and the nature of courses in competition. Under-23 riders are expected to achieve top 10 placings in senior National Trophy races in Great Britain before selection is considered.Competitive performances in international events will receive a weighting.Commitment to the GB Cycling team anti-doping policies.Commitment to the cyclo-cross discipline.Specific nature of the course.
