Report: Western Summer League Round 8

Western Summer League Round 8Western Cyclo-Cross League Summer Series
Event: 12th July 2011
Event Details
Report: Daniel Smith

Crispin Doyle took the win in the Western Summer League Round 8 at Supermarine in Swindon. A select field of 17 riders lined up, with what the race lacked in quantity of riders it did not with quality. Previous winners of the GWR team winter league of Luke Cowley and Crispin Doyle lined up to take advantage to try out the new course in advance of the winter league starting in two months time!

After a fast start Western Summer League Series leader Dan Smith took the lead which he held for the first two laps using his home advantage. This was not to last too long as Doyle made up his way to the front on lap three and he would not be seen again until the finish. Behind a group of three riders, Smith, Cowley and Gary Clark, chased the lone leader but could not make any in roads to his advantage. After 45 minutes of racing Crispin took the win and second place was taken in a three up sprint by Cowely followed closely by Smith.

The next round is held next week in Oldbury Court Estate Bristol and then on the 26th July sees the series final return to Supermarine.
