Three Sky Ride participants have taken part in a Bikeability lesson with a difference.

Sky Ride competition winners Emma Overton, Mary Whittington and Hannah Timberlake joined TV presenter Gethin Jones in Richmond Park ion November to brush-up on their bike-riding skills with British Cycling instructors Charlotte Connolly and Will Newton.

The lucky winners got the chance to ride with the bike-mad Sky Ride ambassador Gethin, when their names were drawn from a hat of people who registered for Sky Ride events in London, Hillingdon, and Barking & Dagenham.

Together they got to grips with some fundamental bike control skills including starting and stopping, pedalling, manoeuvring, signalling and using gears. They also got some real cycling experience on minor and major roads, and picked up some advice on planning journeys in a variety of traffic environments and road conditions.

Emma said: "I had a fantastic day meeting Gethin Jones, Will and Charlotte! I learnt a lot from the tutors. I'd really recommended anyone who was nervous about getting out on a bike to have a cycle session with them."
