Resting captain Neil Howarth, title hopefuls Bury showed their strength with a 90-58 win over Heckmondwike on a Goshen circuit in superb condition despite the recent poor weather.
Opening with a comfortable 7-3 for Chris Parish and Stephen Whitaker, Bury led all the way as they pushed on from their opening week victory, but full credit to Heckmondwike who, in their season-opener, did well to make the trip to Bury at all with a few of their team snowed in.
The second heat saw a Polish battle to the first bend with Bury's Damian Zareba racing away to victory over Paweł Idzoriek.
Evergreen Darren Kent secured a race win for Heckmondwike in heat three, holding off a strong challenge from Bury duo Joe Allen and Will Owens, and heat five saw the visitors take their first heat win when Idzoriek and Adam Watson secured a 6-4 over Dawid Renc and Kris Ramsden. They managed two other heat wins when Bury riders were excluded for moving at the tapes.
Bury seemed to get stronger as the match progressed with some fine riding, especially against Idzoriek. Parish completed a great gate-to-line win in heat ten before, aided by Whitaker, winning from gate four heat 14 with his team-mate showing good form with an excellent pass on the young Polish rider on the third lap.
Bury welcomed Ben Scranage into action and, racing from reserve, he was unbeaten on the track although chalking up a tapes exclusion.
