Speedway: Norwich entertain Hethersett

Location: Harford Park, Norwich
Event: 26 September 2012
Report: Glenn Grange

After their success at Great Blakenham in Suffolk on Sunday, the Norwich Stars entertained local rivals Hethersett/Swinton Chartered Accountants Hawks at Harford Park last Wednesday evening in the South-East League Division 2.

And with expecting a tough match from the Hawks, Norwich were able to control this local derby clash from the off.

Both sides were experiencing late withdrawals, but that did not deter the riders present to put on a show that turned the match into a mini-classic.

Still unbeaten in Division 2 after six matches, Norwich fought with determination to continue to remain unbeaten, and with one or two early scares coming from The Hawks, Norwich held a healthy lead at the interval (45 - 34).

It remained that way, with Hethersett riders Lee Grange (15 Point Penalty) and Harley Hamill recording valuable race wins in Heats 13, 14 and 16. Norwich’s Oliver Riley had his best meeting so far of the season as he went on to score a paid maximum, the returning Gary Colby felt no effects of his injury after he had completed 4 rides.

Overall, Norwich still remain sitting proudly at the top of Division 2, but with difficult away matches at Kesgrave and Ipswich coming up, this could be the challenge to see what Norwich are made of.
