Elite League - Birmingham v Leicester | Elite League
Location: Birmingham CSC, Perry Hall Playing Fields
Event: 7 May 2012

Birmingham continued their Elite League success in the battle of the Monarchs. Leicester struck first blood in heat one returning to the pits with a maximum 7-3 heat advantage.

The remaining heats of the first half were a cagey affair, pretty much level with both Birmingham and Leicester cancelling each other out with numerous 5-5 drawn heats until Leicester took advantage for a second time resulting in a 6-4 heat advantage. At the interval Leicester has their noses in front with a six point lead.

Whatever the respective team managers said to their riders at half time certainly worked because the second half of the match was fast, furious and explosive with numerous thrills, spills and riding errors resulting in both teams incurring several exclusions.

This was a hard fought match played out in difficult conditions with persistent falling rain. It took over two hours to complete owing to the sheer number of restarts required. With the final score of Birmingham 91 Leicester 79 the visitors were clearly disappointed, and rightly so, as the racing was much closer than the numbers would suggest. In contrast, the home team were jubilant and now prepare for a difficult away fixture to local rivals Wednesfield.

In the Division 2 encounter, Leicester was far too strong Birmingham and won comfortably.
