Report: East Park v Leicester - Midland League

Leicester maintained their position as leaders of the Midland league with an emphatic win at Wolverhampton's East Park on Sunday. The final score line of 112-65 tells its own story, Mick Skinner, Carl Jarvis and Ryan Hoyland were all unbeaten by an opponent. Teenage prospect Charlie Cooper continues to show his potential, paid 19 being his best return to date in a first team match.

Report: Wednesfield Aces v Sandwell Lions - Midland League

The home team dominated this Midland fixture to take the league points on a gloriously hot summer afternoon the Aces team members were in red hot form only allowing the visitors one race win advantage in heat 16.
The meeting started fairly even for the first two races which were drawn 5-5, but the Ace's slammed in five heat wins in a row started by the pairing of Lee Aris and Nick Perry with a 7-3 in heat 3 and then a 6-4 from Chris Jewkes and Mick Aris over Sandwell's David Ball and James Chattin followed by another 7-3 against the Lions Ricky Johnson and Luke Brooks from Aces Matt Haddock and Tony De'Leon and then another two 6-4 heat wins.
Sandwell did manage to split the race points in heat eight with Griffiths taking the win and Sandwell pairing of Ball and Johnson taking the minor places ahead of Tom Haddock, then the father and son pairing of Mick and Lee Aris took another 7-3 heat win to go in at half time with a 54-36 scoreline.
The second half was much the same as the first starting with a drawn heat 10, then Griffiths and Tom Haddock secured yet another 6-4 advantage followed by another two 7-3 heat wins in race 13 and 14 to really put the meeting out of Sandwell's reach.
Sandwell to their credit never gave up trying and in heat 16 sprang a 6-4 heat advantage through a win from their top scorer Lee Smith and a third place from his team partner and new team manager David Ball over the Aces' Lee Aris and Matt Haddock,
The Aces finished their day's work off with another 7-3 in the final race having the luxury of being able to drop heat leader Mark Griffiths giving an extra reserve ride to Tony De'Leon and he did not disappoint bringing home the points with team partner Nick Perry.

Division Two
The second team match was a very close contest with the visitors putting up a strong fight right up to the final heat but they were always up against it having given the Wednesfield Aces seven penalty points for using Jack Rowley who had rode also in the first team and being above the permitted age of 16. Sandwell used their reserve Johnson to full effect giving him five races from the reserve birth and scoring a paid maximum of 18+2.

Hethersett Hawks/Swinton & Co celebrated their 45th anniversary with special events at the Memorial Playing Field.
The Hethersett Charity Cup, sponsored by Breckland Autos, was won by former member Dan Chambers (Norwich) on 19 points. Runner-up was Ipswich's Leon Mower on 18 and Jason Barker (Norwich) defeated home skipper Dave Martin in a race-off for third after both finished on 17 points.

The main event, an Anniversary Fours for the Ian Hulcoop Memorial Trophy, was preceded by a minute's silence in memory of former member Trevor Bunn who died in a road accident two weeks previously.
Several former riders returned to the track and many others returned to witness some entertaining racing. Team D, which included two of the club's former British junior champions, won with ease as Nick Myhill and Nick Bedson were in brilliant form supported by the ever robust Mike Kiddell and Nick Bray, who looked classy despite two falls. All present seemed to enjoy their forays and vowed to be back in five years for the Golden Jubilee!

South East Division 1
The following day the Hawks were at Great Blakenham in South East Division 1 and could have done with some of their former stars as they again suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of a side containing four Premier League riders who were all untouchable. Dave Martin was the only Hawks' race winner in heat 10.

South-East Youth League
The midweek South-East Youth League match was much closer and the Hawks top U16 riders put up a very stiff challenge to Norwich who were just too strong in depth.
The Hawks gave a debut to Richard Wiltshire and welcomed back Katie Adams after a long absence through illness. Scott Grimes was outstanding dropping his only points in a very competitive final heat while Olly Buxton showed a lot of determination to win five of his six races. Axl Johnson also showed much promise, another rider making a comeback.

This Saturday the Hawks are at East Park in Wolverhampton for the British U19 Club Championship while on Sunday some Hawks will be at East London for a Grand Prix.
Report: Stockport v Astley Tyldesley v Bury - Manchester League Divisions 1 and 2

Stockport hosted the re-arranged staging of Round 3 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series on Wednesday evening. Plenty of excellent racing took place on a very grippy circuit.
A & T's Adam Turnbull top scored in the U-10 category, losing once to Stockport's Kieran Smith. A & T's Adam Phillips and Stockport's Matt Turner, numbers 1 and 3 in the recent British Final, didn't meet each other and were both unbeaten in the U-13 match.
Stockport twins Jack and Mat Lush both raced unbeaten in the U-16 match, whilst Bury's Vicky Brown was the unbeaten rider in the U-19 section. Stockport's veteran Terry Norman raced to a fine maximum in a very competitive senior match.
Stockport ran out convincing winners in both the junior (Division 2) and senior (Division 1) matches.

Horspath continue to lead at the top of the South West table with an away win at Southampton. The Saints tracked a depleted side and paid the price as did Poole and Exeter who both had fruitless journeys to South Wales where both Newport clubs collected the league points to maintain their championship aspirations.

Northern Individuals

The Northern League Individual Finals were staged on a red hot day at Bury and attracted record entries across seven different categories.
Starting the day were the under 10's and under 13's. In the under 10's Max Evans from Astley & Tyldesley rode to a faultless victory with Stockport's Kieran Smith second and Max Evans also from A&T in third place.
In the older group a full field of 16 starters were led home by a maximum performance from Stockport's Matt Turner. Reece Pollit was something of a dark horse for A&T in runner -up slot and home rider James Elston picked up a deserved third place.
The under 16's was won by another excellent maximum, this time from Stockport's Jack Lush. Heckmondwike's Pawel Idziorek again impressed with his all action style and Jake Read confirmed his potential with a good third place.
The women's meeting was staged for the first time in the North and was won by Sheffield's Sandra Tomborska with another commanding performance. A run-off was needed to separate Sheffield riders Vicky Brown and Laura Watson with Vicky just taking the honours in a good match race.
The veteran's competition was won by late entry Terry Norman of Stockport from Heckmonwike's Darren Kent and Paul Dyson from the promoting club. Hull's Ian Swanborough narrowly missed out on a podium place with 17 points in a meeting that attracted a full field after failing to attract any interest in the last year or two.
The first heat of the blue ribbon senior event was to prove crucial as Hull's Andy Angell tried a pass on the inside of Terry Norman on the final lap. Both riders tangled allowing Jack Lush the win with Terry and Andy finishing third and fourth.
Adam Stephenson from Hull was stacking up the wins and had the luxury of chasing home Andy Angell in his fourth ride to set up a heat 18 decider with Jack Lush. Adam led from gate one with Jack in hot pursuit but the Hull rider opened a gap over the last two laps to take a deserved senior title with Jack runner-up. Andy Angell won his last four rides for third place with Stockport's Dylan Radcliffe and Terry Norman sharing fourth place.
So a marathon days racing was well presented by the Bury club with good refereeing from Pete Ward, John Whiting, Chris Parish and Mike Hack leaving all present with a warm glow in more ways than one!
