Last Saturday morning saw the delivery of the first women only coaching session on the closed road circuit of Curborough sprint course.

Any pre-event concerns regarding how many would turn up completely dissolved when, undeterred by the weather, a group of more than 20 riders from all across the Midlands gathered under grey skies for the morning long coaching session.

Rider feedback

"I am still buzzing from this morning's session! What a fantastic time I had. The coaching was great and it has given me so much confidence to have a go at a circuit race."

"I have never raced before and have only been with a club riding for one year so I found this session extremely helpful. I learnt a lot of tips for racing on the circuit and also found out where my weaknesses lie."

"Wow what can I say other than absolutely fan-flippin tastic!!!!!!! Really enjoyed the training day and learnt so much that made so much sense."

The session was delivered by the club coaches at Lichfield CCC and after an initial warm up and assessment of the group’s relative riding abilities, the riders were coached in various skills including group riding, starts, cornering and some mock race scenarios.

The morning’s session was considered a great all round success and received some very positive feedback from the riders who attended.

The session was the initial step to help support the progressive development of Women only cycling activity and racing in the West Midlands region.

West Midlands Regional Events Officer, Keith Evans said: “This event has provided the evidence needed to show clubs and organisers that there is untapped demand for this sort of activity, and the success of this weekend’s event will help gather a momentum to drive the promotion of other events across the region.”

Thanks are extended to Lichfield City Cycling Club for their support in making this event happen and especially to their club coaches who delivered the session.
