British Cycling has today donated 800 Great Britain Cycling Team drinks bottles to NHS workers in Hull and York, which will be distributed over the Easter weekend.
During the coronavirus pandemic many water fountains have been removed from hospitals, and as a result many staff – who are often spending hours wearing full PPE in intensive care units – are struggling to stay hydrated.
The campaign is being run by Matt Porter, owner of cycling events company Sportive HQ, and in addition to other bottle donations from other companies and teams, his fundraising page has now raised over £1,000. Matt will be using any funds raised to purchase more bottles, and is aiming to raise £5,000 in total.
British Cycling Head of Commercial Partnerships, Nick Hayes, said:
“We’re delighted to be able to get behind this campaign alongside our partners HSBC UK and SiS, and provide vital support to the NHS workers who are fighting tirelessly to keep us safe at this time. On behalf of everybody at British Cycling I’d like to thank them for their incredible work.”
