Emma Finucane and Oscar Nilsson-Julien were too good for the rest of the field as they took victories in the latest stage of the British Cycling | Youth Circuit Series in Pembrey.

With series leader Oliver Stockwell missing the latest round in the under 16 boys competition, opportunity knocked in Wales for the rest of the field.

Nilsson-Julien went on the offensive as he tried to assert himself on the race but the VC Londres rider was caught heading into the final stages.

Nevertheless, the teenager still had the strength to drive on at the end and edge out Oscar Onley of Squadra Scozzese to seal an enthralling race.

Meanwhile, Towy Rider Finucane overcame a tightly packed field as she broke away from the pack late on to claim the victory.

Battling teammate Eluned King, the young rider was too good for her as she clinched first place with a strong sprint finish. Danielle Parker rounded off the top three.

Conditions on the course

Pembrey Country Park welcomed the youngsters but tricky conditions made it difficult for any rider to make a clean and convincing break in any race.

Blustery weather didn’t help but that didn’t stop riders attempting to force the issue with the likes of Izzy Brickell going on the attack in the girls race.

Amy Cole also made a break from the pack late on but was chased down by Finucane who revelled in the conditions to take the victory.

Nilsson-Julien was one of the many in the boys race to try and fail in making an early break but the VC Londres rider still had plenty left in the tank to take the stage.
