British Cycling were deeply saddened by the news of Brian Annable’s passing on Wednesday.

Brian had a successful racing career, which saw him named in the provisional team pursuit squad for the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. Following his retirement from racing his dedication to the sport never waned, as he became a much-valued event organiser and founder of the City of Edinburgh Racing Club in 1982.

The club has been instrumental in the careers of some of Great Britain’s most decorated cyclists, from Sir Chris Hoy and Craig Maclean to Callum Skinner and Katie Archibald. Brian was deservedly awarded an Order of the British Empire in 2013, and inducted into the inaugural British Cycling Hall of Fame.

We owe an enormous debt of gratitude for the commitment and passion he has shown for cycling. His presence in British, and particularly Scottish cycling, will be sorely missed.

The thoughts of everybody, both at British Cycling and in the wider cycling community, are with Brian’s friends and family at this difficult time.
